Technology Plan

Our plan for 2026-2027 through 2029-2030 to use technology intentionally, invest wisely, and keep the focus on learning.

At Seton Catholic, we believe technology should be a tool for learning, not the focus of learning. Our goal is to use technology when it strengthens instruction while also making sure our students have plenty of opportunities for reading, writing, discussion, hands-on learning, creativity, physical activity, and face-to-face interaction.

Over the next several years, Seton will be taking a more intentional approach to technology use, including student screen time, device replacement, and the resources we invest in.

Screen Time

Student Screen Time

In compliance with House Bill 2676, Seton Catholic students will have the following general limits for computer use.

Grades K-5

60

minutes or less per school day

Grades 6-8

90

minutes or less per school day

These guidelines are designed to encourage thoughtful use of technology while maintaining a balanced school day. Teachers will continue to use professional judgment to determine when technology is an appropriate and effective instructional tool.

By Grade Level

Technology by Grade Level

Seton will continue to use various technological tools based on the ages and developmental needs of our students.

Kindergarten-1st Grade

iPads will remain the primary student technology device.

2nd-5th Grade

Students will primarily use computers through classroom computer carts.

6th-8th Grade

Students will continue to have access to individual computers for appropriate instructional use.

Our approach will continue to evolve as technology, instructional practices, and student needs change.

Devices

A More Sustainable Approach to Devices

Seton is taking a more intentional approach to replacing devices, which allows us to be better stewards of school resources while still providing students with the technology they need.

Device Plan Timeline

  1. 2026-2027

    Strategic investments

Seton plans to use available tax levy funds for new staff computers, new iPads, and a new social studies curriculum.

  2. 2027-2028

    Replacing devices as needed

Seton will move away from automatically replacing an entire grade level of student computers each year.

Instead, we will prioritize replacing computers that are broken, no longer functioning properly, or no longer meet our instructional needs. Functional devices will continue to be used as long as they remain effective.

  3. 2029-2030

    Reviewing the one-to-one model

We will evaluate whether maintaining a one-to-one computer-to-student model remains the best approach for Seton. This will be a thoughtful discussion based on instructional needs, student learning, cost, and the technology available at that time.

Investments

Investing in What Matters Most

Our technology plan is not simply about purchasing newer devices. We want to make sure our resources are directed toward the things that have the greatest impact on student learning.

2026-2027 Investments

During the 2026-2027 school year, Seton plans to use available tax levy funds to make several strategic investments, including:

  • Approximately 10 new staff computers
  • Approximately 20 new iPads
  • A significant investment in a new social studies curriculum

Classroom Technology

We will also continue to evaluate our classroom technology, including Smart Boards, and develop a long-term replacement plan as those devices reach the end of their useful life.

Our Goal

The goal of this plan is simple:

  • Use technology intentionally.
  • Invest wisely.
  • Keep the focus on learning.
Beyond the Screen

Skills Technology Cannot Replace

We want our students to be capable and confident users of technology while also developing the habits and skills that technology cannot replace:

Reading deeplyThinking criticallyCommunicating clearlyWorking with othersCreatingServingEngaging with the people and world around them

At Seton, technology will continue to be an important part of education, but it will remain a tool in service of our mission, not the mission itself.
